Title: Geosynthetic Concrete Mattress for Erosion Protections: Rivers and Canals

Abstract: This paper describes the design of a geosynthetic concrete formwork for erosion protection of riverbeds and embankments. With a rising number of flood events worldwide, the risk of scouring of erosion to slopes, embankments and riverbeds increases. After filling, the geosynthetic concrete mattresses create a monolithic body of concrete with high resistance to mechanical and hydraulic loads. The construction and benefits of geosynthetic concrete formworks are further discussed against the background of an executed project in Taiwan. This demonstrates the capability of the concrete textile formwork as an erosion-resistant system.
