Abstract: Most condition audits on assets in Northern Australia are conducted on a visual basis which utilise the individual’s interpretations. Interpretations’ of condition vary from person to person. Project Delivery Managers (PDM) have been delivering this service to its clients utilising the latest in Mobile Mapping Technology (combination of GPS systems, Laser scanning, IMU and high-definition imagery) over the past five years to increase the accuracy and reliability asset condition information, which is utilised for asset management, asset recapitalisation and DRFA. PDM successfully undertakes condition audits on assets from roads to sewer manholes, pump stations, bridges, culverts, and buildings. Assets such as manholes and pump stations that have the added constraint of confined space entry can be assessed readily and the methods developed by PDM provide the asset owner with an incontestable report on the deviations from the norm. The distinct benefit gained by the asset owner by utilising this technology is that the capture is considerably faster, safer and more cost effective than traditional means. The data has many uses, not a single dimensioned output that is used then disposed or possibly contested. Mobile mapping has proven to increase accurate quantifiable data, improve safety, provide improvements on time management and keep operational situations such as road closures for pick up to a minimum. The accurate data is utilised in Local Government for Finance, Asset Management, DRFA claims, and for maintenance planning, construction management, with the additional benefit that the data collected once can be utilised many times for the one cost of capture.
