Title: Pre-fabricated building projects – how to deliver through match-fit contracts” - Norton Rose Fulbright
Authors: Niemann, Ren
Issue Date: Apr-2021
Publisher: IPWEAQ
Abstract: Prefabricated / offsite / modular construction is far from a new concept – many will be familiar with this model of construction delivery. Recent technological advances have put offsite and modular construction firmly back into the spotlight. According to proponents, offsite construction is an answer to many of the challenges currently facing the construction industry. During the presentation, Ren Niemann will guide attendees on the successful delivery of such projects and the lessons learned to ensure that construction contracts are match-fit to enable this to occur. Specifically, Ren will cover: • A comparison of typical construction contracts (including Australian Standards, GC 21 and NEC) and how these traditional documents address the requirements for off-site or modular construction • Key issues stemming from off-site or modular construction (in particular, cash flow and design risk) • Best practice approach to amending contracts to suit off-site or modular construction • Impacts of Queensland building legislation on off-site or modular construction As appropriate, Ren will use case studies to help understand the issues and draw out the lessons learned.”
