Abstract: | While the federal government funded Roads of Strategic Importance initiative was announced in October 2018, with $4.5 billion designed to improve productivity and efficiency on key freight routes throughout Australia, the advent of COVID-19 has seen an acceleration of this investment, with the Queensland government examining ways to fasttrack projects to protect jobs during the COVID-19 crisis. Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey has met civil contractors to discuss the issue and it was announced on 29 April 2020 that $185 million will be invested in roadworks over the next four years |
