Abstract: | As a binder bitumen can be reactivated when it ages, this allows asphalt to be recycled and it is one of the most recycled construction products. Moving RAP from waste to reuse has lead the path for the recycling and reuse of other current waste streams. Crumb rubber from motor car and truck tyres has also been used for decades and, like asphalt, makes commercial sense. Glass, plastics and other products on the waste stream are being added to road building as well. The pending levy on waste will add increased motivation to reusing rather than loss to landfill. The presentation will overview the options and reflect on increasing ways to promote the sustainable use of bituminous products and to consider circular economy thinking. |
