Abstract: | Nebo Road Water Treatment Plant is located in West Mackay and is the sole source of treated water to the Mackay water supply scheme, serving a population of about 100,000 people, or an average of 30 ML/d production. This increases in peak demand and the plant is rated to provide a peak demand of 55 ML/d. The plant draws raw water primarily from the Pioneer River via the Dumbleton Weir, located about 13 km away. This overview shows that the raw river water flows into a river water dosing tank where it is dosed with a variety of chemicals set to best treat the incoming water quality. Dosed water then flows into two clarifiers in parallel. Clarified water flows to multimedia filters then the filtered water is disinfected and transferred to the town’s reticulation system. If you’ve driven through Mackay on the Bruce Highway via Nebo Road, you have driven by this water treatment plant. Next time you pass by, feel free to honk the horn and you’ll most likely get a wave from one of us if we are out on the plant. |
