Abstract: The published budget for the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) in 2010–11 was $3.7 billion for operating and $3.6 billion for capital to deliver a safe, efficient and integrated transport system for Queensland. TMR administers 23 instruments of legislation (see page 165 for details). Our organisation is structured to deliver efficient and effective services to our customers and stakeholders. We take pride in developing and delivering high-quality services throughout Queensland. Our core business involves: • policy direction for Queensland’s transport system • integrated transport planning • land use and transport development assessment • road design, construction, maintenance and operation • providing essential transport infrastructure such as busways, cycleways, boat ramps and jetties • driver and boat operator licensing • vehicle and boat registration • public transport regulation and services (urban bus, limousine, taxi, ferry, long-distance bus and aviation) • road, rail and maritime safety education • marine pollution prevention and response • intelligent transport systems • transport system security and disaster response and recovery operations
