Abstract: The Logan Motorway Enhancement Project (LEP) is a D&C Joint venture with CPB Contractors, GHD and SMEC. The $512 million Transurban project involves upgrading parts of the Logan and Gateway Extension motorways, including improving key congestion hot spots, enhancing capacity and improving flow of traffic. Widely recognised in the transportation industry as one of the most compressed time delivery timeframes, the Logan Enhancement Project is an industry standard in efficient design processes. The result is an improved traffic network with enhanced environmental consideration that holistically benefits the community. Amy Norman worked as a lead civil engineer in the Temporary Traffic Management team, coordinating design teams to deliver over 12 major design stages to bring the infrastructure from the existing alignment to an enhanced network, comprising of new service road, duplicated lanes, and interchanges. This large scale project has a variety of lessons learned that can be transferred to smaller scale, regional transportation and construction projects. These include: — Optimising design to maintain a high level of service for through traffic — Staging works to minimise need for temporary construction — Early collaboration with contractors to enhance constructability — Coordination of design team for fast, responsive design This paper contains overall project learnings with a particularly focus on Temporary Traffic Management practises that can be adopted on regional transportation and construction projects.
